Data collection is a crucial component of participant reporting and establishing processes early in the grant for collecting and managing data from your participants is key to reporting accurately throughout the period of performance. Grantees have a variety of methods of case management from which to choose, including Excel spreadsheets, existing databases, third-party vendor software, and others.

This event provided an overview of the Participant Individual Record Layout (PIRL) for Nursing Expansion grants; tips for developing participant intake forms, including converting data elements from the PIRL into intake questions; and a description of the pros and cons of using the most common methods of case management selected by grantees.

The Nursing Expansion Data Collection and Tracking Toolkit is a supplement to this event that includes tips and best practices for setting up effective grant policies and procedures that allow grantees to gather the information about participants that is needed to report each quarter.
